Offspring of Isaac & Sons of Ishmael

Historically, Muslims viewed themselves as the descendants of Ishmael, the first son of Abraham. Mohammed traced his own line back through Arab peoples to the princes and tribes born to Ishmael. The book of Genesis teaches that God did not see Ishmael as the heir through which the promise to Abraham would be fulfilled. God said to Abraham in Genesis 18:12, “Through Isaac shall your offspring be named.”
